What are the responsibilities and job description for the Psychoeducation Counselor position at EPIC Community Development Center?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychoeducation Counselor to join our dynamic mental health team. In this role, you will provide vital psychoeducational support to individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, developmental disabilities, and behavioral concerns. Your expertise will help empower clients with knowledge, coping strategies, and therapeutic interventions to foster resilience and improve overall well-being. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of diverse populations, including preschool-age to adult, through engaging educational sessions and personalized counseling.
Responsibilities
- Deliver psychoeducational sessions tailored to clients’ needs, covering topics such as mental health awareness, addiction recovery, domestic violence, behavioral management, and coping skills development
- Conduct comprehensive client assessments to identify needs and develop individualized intervention strategies
- Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, and other relevant modalities.
- Collaborate with the Program Manager and Advocacy Center team to coordinate case management efforts and ensure holistic client care
- Manage documentation accurately in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including treatment plans, assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis management support during urgent situations to ensure client safety
- Work with children and individuals with mild to moderate disorders to promote social skills, emotional regulation, and conflict management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
- Proven experience in leading sessions on mental health awareness, anger management, substance abuse, family conflict, stress reduction, and healthy relationships, etc., teaching clients about diagnoses (e.g., anxiety, autism, PTSD) and developing personalized coping skills.
- Strong knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and crisis management protocols
- Familiarity with addiction counseling, child & family counseling, working with individuals with disabilities, and special education environments
- Proficiency in mental health documentation practices and understanding of HIPAA compliance
- Excellent communication skills for engaging clients across diverse backgrounds and age groups
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy while maintaining professional boundaries
