About the Role
Envent Corporation is seeking a skilled and driven Project Field Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for an engineering professional with hands-on refinery experience who thrives in a field environment. The Project Field Engineer will be responsible for overseeing project execution and planning at customer sites, ensuring technical excellence, safety compliance, and seamless coordination between engineering, operations, and client stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Execution & Oversight
- Lead on-site execution of field engineering projects from planning through completion, serving as the primary technical authority on-site.
- Oversee day-to-day field operations at refineries and industrial facilities, ensuring work is performed in accordance with project plans, safety requirements, engineering specifications, and applicable codes.
- Monitor project progress, identify technical and schedule risks, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track. Escalate critical issues to senior leadership as required.
- Manage regional P&L, control costs, and maximize profitability. Oversee purchases and ensure compliance with financial procedures
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings including PFDs, P&IDs, and piping isometrics in the field.
- Coordinate closely with field crews, subcontractors, and client representatives to drive project milestones.
Team Leadership
- Directly manage a team of field technicians throughout the full duration of each project, providing day-to-day direction, task assignments, and technical guidance to ensure safe and efficient execution.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and professionalism within the field team; conduct regular toolbox talks and performance check-ins.
- Verify all technicians are trained and competent in task-specific procedures, equipment operation, and site safety requirements before commencing work.
Planning & Engineering Coordination
- Participate in project planning from the pre-execution phase, including scope development, schedule creation, resource allocation, and technical review.
- Collaborate with the technicians and internal engineering teams to develop and refine execution strategies, ensuring field practicality and compliance.
- Review and approve field change requests; prepare technical documentation and change order support packages.
- Assist in developing project proposals, cost estimates, and work scopes from an engineering and field execution perspective.
- Interface with customer facilities engineers, inspection teams, and project stakeholders on technical issues and resolution.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure rigorous safety standards are upheld on all job sites; lead Job Safety Analysis (JSA) development and safety audits.
- Enforce proper PPE usage, permit-to-work compliance, and adherence to site-specific safety protocols at refineries and industrial plants.
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions as required.
Stakeholder & Team Interface
- Serve as the primary on-site technical liaison between Envent, the customer, and internal departments.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with client personnel including field engineers, operators, and project managers.
- Resolve technical conflicts related to process and mechanical design; recommend and implement practical engineering solutions.
- Must be able to travel approximately 50% of the time to project sites.
- Must be available to support a flexible schedule aligned with 24/7 field operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (required).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive field engineering experience in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing project execution in the field, including planning, scheduling, and technical oversight.
- Proven ability to lead and manage field technician teams in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
- Background in degassing, vapor control, water treatment, natural gas compression, or industrial turnaround projects is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards applicable to refinery operations (API, ASME, OSHA PSM, etc.).
Required Skills & Tools
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and mark up engineering drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment drawings).
- Solid understanding of process systems, mechanical equipment, and field construction practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues under field conditions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce field reports, technical memos, and change documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with project scheduling tools (MS Project or similar) preferred.
- High safety awareness with a proactive safety culture mindset.
- Valid driver’s license from state of residency and valid proof of insurance.
- Must have or be able to obtain a valid TWIC card, RSO, or comparable refinery area access credential.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Primary work environment is on-site at refineries, petrochemical plants, and industrial facilities.
- Physical demands include extended periods of walking, standing, climbing, and working in confined or elevated environments.
- Must be able to occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be physically fit and pass the company physical examination to qualify for this position.
- Exposure to outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, and industrial hazards consistent with refinery site work.
Salary : $110,000 - $150,000
