The HR Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the HR Manager and plant management team. This role carries out responsibilities in functional areas including recruitment, employee relations, training, performance management, benefits administration, and HR information system (HRIS) data management, specifically within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which could include long days, occasional evening & weekends; regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position; position may require travel to meetings, conferences, workshops or other facilities

Essential Job Functions
RECRUITMENT AND ONBOARDING
- Source, screen, interview, and onboard candidates for hourly production, skilled trades, and entry-level salaried positions.
- Coordinate new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company objectives and policies.
- Manage the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and maintain all recruitment records.
- Act as a trusted resource for employees, addressing questions and providing guidance regarding benefits, compensation, and company policies.
- Assist the HR Manager in investigating employee grievances, disciplinary issues, and conflicts, ensuring fair and consistent application of plant policies.
- Facilitate exit interviews and analyze data to identify trends and suggest improvements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, both hard-copy and within the HRIS (e.g., inputting new hires, changes, and terminations).
- Ensure the plant’s compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including posting requirements and record-keeping (e.g., EEO, OSHA logs, FLSA).
- Administer and manage leave programs (e.g., FMLA, military leave) and coordinate worker’s compensation claims documentation.
- Assist in the annual open enrollment process and communicate benefit options to employees.
- Serve as the liaison between the plant and benefits vendors.
- Support the payroll process by verifying timecards, processing adjustments, and ensuring timely submission of data.
- Coordinate and sometimes conduct mandated compliance training (e.g., harassment prevention, ethics).
- Assist in scheduling and tracking participation in technical and safety training programs specific to the manufacturing floor.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Required
- Degree in Personnel Management/Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications or related field; or a minimum of 8 years of a combination of education, training and experience in the Human Resources field
- Minimum of 2-4 years of experience as an HR Generalist or specialist, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment.
- Willingness and proven ability to be critically available (on-call/after-hours) to respond rapidly to urgent, after-hours employee or operational issues that require immediate HR intervention
- HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR).
- Experience supporting a workforce with multiple shifts and high seasonal volume changes.
- Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements or a unionized environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
- Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds
- Prefer Bilingual verbal and written communication skills in English & SpanisH
- Preference will be given to qualified local candidates
- General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook, Google Workspace, and web-site software
- Has the ability to learn new software systems and data management systems quickly
- Proficient keyboarding and typing skills
