About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Lead Buffer Engineer to join our team and drive the design, optimization, and scaling of large-scale buffer preparation and distribution systems. In this role, you will independently own the buffer workstream, act as a technical subject matter expert, and provide critical leadership to relieve senior project leads. Key Responsibilities
- Workstream Ownership: Independently lead the buffer workstream from design through execution, ensuring seamless coordination with both upstream and downstream processing teams.
- System Design & Optimization: Oversee buffer tank design, including agitation, temperature control, mixing uniformity, and system scalability.
- Process Improvements: Optimize buffer recipes, streamline preparation times, and troubleshoot complex solution stability and material compatibility issues.
- Operations Support: Ensure robust CIP/SIP (Clean-in-Place/Steam-in-Place) integration across all buffer systems.
- Quality & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to cGMP standards regarding solution preparation, filtration, hold times, titration, and precise pH/conductivity control.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 8 years of dedicated process engineering experience in a biopharma environment, with a heavy, proven emphasis on large-scale buffer preparation, storage, and distribution.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related equivalent technical discipline.
- Technical Expertise: Strong hands-on knowledge of raw material handling, filtration systems, and CIP/SIP engineering integration.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of cGMP guidelines for solution hold times and formulation parameters.
- Preferred Skills: Experience utilizing process simulation tools (such as Aspen Plus or similar software) is a strong plus.
