Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mold Maker to join a leading high-tolerance manufacturing facility. In this role, you will be responsible for the build, repair, debugging, and final bench assembly of complex precision injection molds and custom tooling.
The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on problem-solving skills to diagnose tooling issues, perform precision adjustments, and ensure tools meet strict quality standards from initial sampling through full production approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Mold Repair & Troubleshooting: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex injection molds, hot runner systems, and precision tooling.
- New Tool Debugging: Support tooling sampling and initial debugging; identify root causes for dimensional or functional defects and implement corrective fixes.
- Assembly & Finishing: Perform final fitting, benching, polishing, spot-fitting, and complete assembly of new tooling.
- Maintenance & Emergency Support: Execute scheduled mold maintenance routines and address urgent tool breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Design Collaboration: Review and interpret CAD models/drawings using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks) and provide feedback on Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate closely with CNC operators, EDM specialists, and Quality engineers; mentor junior mold makers and apprentices as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5 years of hands-on experience in mold making, tool & die building, or precision injection mold repair.
- Technical Expertise: Proven ability to independently diagnose, fit, and repair multi-cavity or high-tolerance injection molds.
- CAD / Blueprint Skills: Proficiency reviewing 3D engineering models (SolidWorks preferred) and reading complex blueprints with GD&T specs.
- Machining Knowledge: Solid understanding of precision shop equipment, grinding, fitting techniques, and machining processes.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; formal apprenticeship or Journeyman card is a strong plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating or programming Wire/Sinker EDM machines or CNC equipment.
- Familiarity with Mastercam or advanced CAM software.
- Background working within ISO-certified or high-precision manufacturing environments.
