Division Vice President – Business Unit Controller
Location: outside New York, NY
Overview
The Business Unit Controller is a key member of the Business Unit Leadership Team and serves as a strategic finance partner to executive and operational leaders within a multi-site, international manufacturing organization supporting the aerospace industry. This role owns financial reporting, forecasting, compliance, and operational analytics while driving process improvements and strong financial performance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results, including variance and trend analysis
- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with corporate policies
- Analyze key performance indicators including revenue, cost of sales, gross margin, operating expenses, and working capital; communicate insights and improvement opportunities to senior leadership
- Coordinate cross-functional inputs for monthly forecasts and annual budgets; report projections related to orders, sales, profitability, and cash flow
- Present financial performance updates to divisional and corporate leadership with clarity and transparency
- Partner with operations and engineering to support new product development initiatives and ensure strong business cases and financial returns
- Support pricing strategies to ensure contracts meet profitability targets
- Collaborate with operations to track and improve productivity, cost reduction initiatives, value analysis/value engineering (VAVE), and operational KPIs
- Lead working capital optimization efforts across accounts receivable, inventory, accounts payable, unbilled revenue, and customer advances
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation, physical count compliance, and management of excess and obsolete inventory reserves
- Prepare and evaluate capital expenditure requests, including net present value (NPV) analyses
- Maintain a robust internal controls environment and ensure SOX compliance
- Support internal and external audits and assist with the implementation of new accounting standards
- Perform financial due diligence and modeling for potential acquisitions
- Recruit, develop, and lead finance and accounting team members, including performance management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- CPA and/or Master’s degree preferred
- 10 years of experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting, ideally within a multi-site manufacturing environment
- 5–7 years of people leadership and management experience
- Public company and M&A experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with government or defense-related contracting is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606) and SOX requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle), financial consolidation tools, and data analytics platforms such as Power BI
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence executive-level stakeholders
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
- Willingness to travel up to 15% for operational reviews and site visits
