Seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer (PE) with 8 years of experience to lead geotechnical investigations and design for a wide range of land development, commercial, infrastructure, and specialty projects. This role is ideal for someone who can manage projects end-to-end, mentor junior staff, interface directly with clients, and deliver high-quality technical work on schedule and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
- Lead geotechnical exploration programs, including scoping, planning, and execution (test borings, CPT, test pits, geophysics where applicable).
- Develop geotechnical engineering evaluations and recommendations for:
- Shallow and deep foundations (spread footings, mats, piles, drilled shafts)
- Settlement analyses, bearing capacity, liquefaction screening
- Retaining structures and earth support systems
- Slope stability and embankment design
- Earthwork/fill placement, ground improvement, and compaction requirements
- Pavement subgrade and pavement design support
- Seismic site classification and geologic hazards screening (as applicable)
- Prepare and/or oversee production of geotechnical reports, calculations, specifications, and technical memoranda.
- Provide construction-phase services: observation, subgrade verification, foundation bearing evaluations, addressing RFIs, and field problem-solving.
Project Management
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, including budgets, schedules, staffing, and deliverables.
- Coordinate with drilling subcontractors, labs, survey, and other consultants.
- Review and approve field logs, lab testing, data interpretation, and report content.
- Identify and manage project risks, changes in scope, and client expectations.
Client & Business Development
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients—communicating findings, risks, and recommendations clearly.
- Support proposals, scopes, and fee estimates; contribute to business development and client retention.
- Collaborate with internal teams (civil, environmental, structural) to support integrated project delivery.
Mentorship & Team Development
- Mentor and train junior engineers and staff; provide technical guidance and QA/QC review.
- Promote safety and quality standards across field and office activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (active, in good standing).
- 8 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience (consulting environment strongly preferred).
- Proven ability to lead geotechnical investigations, interpret subsurface data, and develop defensible engineering recommendations.
- Demonstrated project management experience (scope, schedule, budget, and staff coordination).
- Strong technical writing skills; experience producing high-quality geotechnical reports.
- Ability to perform and oversee field work and site visits as required.
Salary : $150,000 - $180,000
