Property Accountant – Class A High-Rise Portfolio

Our client, a well-established real estate owner/operator, is hiring a Property Accountant to join their Class A high-rise division. This is a high-visibility seat on a growing team, where you'll own the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of premier corporate buildings in the Chicagoland market.
About the Role
Reporting into the accounting leadership team, the Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations across a portfolio of Class A high-rise assets. You'll partner closely with property management, asset management, and leasing teams to ensure accurate financial reporting, clean CAM reconciliations, and timely month-end close.
What You'll Do
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of Class A high-rise commercial buildings, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and variance analyses for ownership and asset management
- Own CAM reconciliations from start to finish — calculate, review, and issue annual CAM, tax, and insurance reconciliations to tenants
- Review and post tenant billings, recoveries, and lease-related charges; ensure billing accuracy against lease terms
- Partner with property managers on operating budgets, reforecasts, and monthly financial reviews
- Reconcile bank accounts, track fixed assets, and maintain the GL across assigned properties
- Support audits, tax filings, and lender reporting requirements
- Assist with cash management, including funding requests and distributions
What You Bring
- 3 years of real estate accounting experience (required)
- Prior experience accounting for corporate / commercial office buildings (required)
- Hands-on CAM reconciliation experience (preferred)
- Strong understanding of full-cycle GL accounting and month-end close
- Proficiency in Yardi, MRI, or comparable real estate accounting software
- Advanced Excel skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple properties simultaneously
