About the Role

Energy Services Group (ESGI) is seeking a hands-on Human Resources Director to lead and manage the HR function for ESG International, its subsidiaries, divisions, and related business operations. This role oversees the HR team and is responsible for ensuring HR processes are efficient, compliant, well-documented, and aligned with the company’s operational, financial, client-service, and risk-management objectives.


The successful candidate will be a practical, business-minded HR leader with experience managing day-to-day HR operations, employee relations, compliance, onboarding/offboarding, benefits coordination, HR systems, and workforce support in a fast-paced staffing, consulting, or multi-state employer environment. This position reports to executive leadership and works closely with Accounting, Operations, senior management, and other business functions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and hold accountable the HR team responsible for supporting corporate employees, field employees, temporary staff, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as the senior HR advisor to management on employee relations, workforce practices, HR compliance, policy interpretation, performance matters, disciplinary actions, investigations, terminations, and employment-related risk.
  • Oversee employee and subcontractor onboarding, offboarding, workforce changes, personnel documentation, employment classifications, client-required onboarding requirements, and HR recordkeeping.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including EEO, workplace conduct, onboarding documentation, employee classifications, employment records, and other HR-related requirements.
  • Support the unique HR needs of a staffing and consulting business, including timely starts, field employee support, client-driven requirements, assignment-based workforce changes, multi-state issues, documentation accuracy, and workforce flexibility.
  • Partner with Accounting, Payroll, Operations, and management on payroll-impacting changes, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, unemployment claims, leave administration, employment verifications, audit support, and related HR administrative matters.
  • Develop, update, and improve HR policies, procedures, communication practices, HR systems, tracking tools, reporting processes, and other HR-related workflows.
  • Promote a professional, accountable, responsive, compliant, and service-oriented HR function that supports company growth, employee engagement, client satisfaction, and operational execution.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
  • Ten or more years of Human Resource Management experience.
  • Previous HR management and leadership experience required.
  • Experience in staffing, consulting, professional services, engineering services, technical services, or a multi-state employer environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
  • Experience with employee relations, investigations, discipline, terminations, onboarding, offboarding, benefits coordination, and HR policy development.
  • Experience working with both corporate employees and field-based or client-assigned employees preferred.

Additional Expectations

  • This position is expected to provide hands-on leadership of the HR department and maintain visibility into day-to-day HR operations.
  • This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with availability during business hours for urgent employee, client, management, or compliance matters.
  • Success will be measured by the HR Director’s ability to lead the HR team, improve HR responsiveness, maintain compliance, support timely onboarding and offboarding, reduce employment-related risk, improve documentation discipline, and support the company’s growth and profitability objectives.
