Organization Description

The Training Center of the Energy Coordinating Agency Inc. (ECA) is the region’s premier training center for Weatherization and other programs and courses leading to careers in the energy and construction industries. ECA is one of two Weatherization Training Centers certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry and the first Building Performance Institute (BPI) Affiliate in Pennsylvania

Position Summary:

The HVAC-R / Heat Pump Instructor will provide classroom and hands-on technical instruction to students enrolled in HVAC-R and Heat Pump training programs. The instructor will prepare students for entry-level employment in the HVAC industry by delivering industry-aligned training focused on heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pump technologies.

The instructor will support ECA’s workforce development mission by helping students build technical skills, workplace readiness, safety awareness, and industry knowledge necessary for successful employment in the clean energy and skilled trades sectors.

Responsibilities:

Deliver HVAC-R and Heat Pump curriculum through classroom instruction and hands-on lab training

Teach students foundational and advanced concepts related to:

HVAC systems

Refrigeration cycles

Heat pump installation and troubleshooting

Electrical fundamentals

Tools and equipment usage

Preventive maintenance and diagnostics

Safety procedures and OSHA standards

Prepare students for industry certifications and entry-level employment opportunities

Conduct hands-on demonstrations, technical exercises, and lab activities

Monitor student attendance, participation, and progress

Maintain a safe, organized, and professional learning environment

Collaborate with Training Department staff regarding student support and program needs

Assist with curriculum enhancements aligned with industry trends and employer needs

Maintain lab equipment, inventory, and instructional materials

Reinforce professionalism, employability skills, and workplace expectations

Qualifications:

Minimum of 3–5 years of HVAC-R industry experience

Experience with heat pump systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting

EPA Universal Certification required

Prior instructional, teaching, or workforce development experience preferred

Strong knowledge of HVAC electrical systems, diagnostics, and refrigeration principles

Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred

Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills

Preferred Skills:

Experience teaching adult learners or workforce development participants

Familiarity with clean energy technologies and high-efficiency HVAC systems

Ability to deliver engaging hands-on instruction

Knowledge of industry certifications and career pathways within HVAC trades

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for extended periods during instruction

Ability to lift and move HVAC tools, materials, and equipment

Ability to safely conduct hands-on demonstrations in classroom and lab settings

Pay: $50.00 per hour
