Saint Edmund’s Retreat is seeking an experienced full-time Bookkeeper/Staff Accountant to support the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal financial systems, and supporting the overall financial integrity of Saint Edmund’s Retreat. The position reports to senior financial leadership and is designed for a candidate capable of both executing day-to-day bookkeeping functions and contributing to higher-level accounting processes.
This position offers a salary of $72,000 plus benefits, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process deposits in a timely and accurate manner
- Perform transaction entry and coding, and upload transactions into QuickBooks
- Maintain accurate and well-organized financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with internal procedures
- Prepare and complete bank and credit card reconciliations
- Maintain proper segregation of restricted and unrestricted fund activities and projects
- Post Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions, including invoice verification and payment processing
- Post revenue transactions from various subledgers and reconcile to the general ledger
- Assist with finance department activities and support internal control processes
- Prepare financial reports and documentation as requested
- Read and assist in the preparation of financial statements, including Income Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow Statements
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial information
- Perform ad hoc financial and administrative tasks as requested
- Assist in the design, modification, implementation, and ongoing management of internal systems for organizing and executing financial tasks
- Participate in interactions with the Finance Committee as directed by senior financial leadership
- Coordinate and interact with payroll functions or external payroll providers as needed
- Provide financial data and documentation to external parties (e.g., auditors, consultants, regulatory bodies) as directed
- Demonstrate preparedness to assume increased responsibilities following initial training and onboarding
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field preferred
- Experience: 2–4 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, with preference for nonprofit experience
- Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel; strong attention to detail; solid organizational skills; ability to work independently; ability to manage multiple priorities; and ability to read and assist in the preparation of financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statement)
- Demonstrated ability or aptitude to improve systems, workflows, and financial processes over time
