Job Title: Concrete Finisher
Position Summary
The Concrete Finisher is responsible for placing, finishing, and curing concrete surfaces to meet project specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong field craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently as part of a crew on commercial, industrial, and/or residential concrete work.
Key Responsibilities
Concrete Placement & Finishing
- Place, spread, and consolidate concrete using hand tools and power tools.
- Perform screeding, bull-floating, edging, jointing, and troweling (hand and/or power) to achieve required finish and flatness.
- Set and maintain grades, elevations, and slopes for slabs, walkways, pads, curbs, ramps, and other placements.
- Install and finish control joints and construction joints per plans/specs (saw-cut or tooled as required).
- Perform surface treatments as required (broom, smooth trowel, hard trowel, exposed aggregate, stamped, etc.).
Formwork, Reinforcement, and Site Coordination
- Assist with layout, forming, and stripping of concrete forms (wood/metal).
- Verify placement readiness (forms, reinforcement, embeds, sleeves, vapor barrier, and base preparation).
- Work closely with foreman, pump operator, and placing crew to maintain consistent workflow and quality.
Curing, Protection, and Quality
- Apply curing methods and protection measures (wet cure, curing compounds, blankets, enclosures) based on weather and specifications.
- Monitor concrete setting conditions and adjust finishing operations accordingly.
- Patch, rub, and repair surface imperfections as required.
- Maintain workmanship consistent with project tolerances and finish expectations.
Safety, Equipment, and Housekeeping
- Follow all company safety policies and site-specific requirements, including PPE and hazard recognition.
- Operate and maintain finishing equipment (power trowels, vibrators, screeds, saws) and report mechanical issues.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and materials; protect adjacent finished work.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience as a Concrete Finisher.
- Strong knowledge of concrete finishing methods, timing, and weather impacts (hot/cold weather placements).
- Proficiency with finishing tools and equipment (hand tools and power trowels).
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in varying conditions, and stand/kneel/bend for extended periods.
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial/industrial slabs, curb and sidewalk, ramps/ADA details, or decorative finishes.
- OSHA 10 (or willingness to obtain).
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Outdoor construction environment; exposure to heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Physically demanding position requiring frequent lifting, kneeling, and repetitive hand/arm motions.
- May require early starts, extended hours, and occasional weekends based on pour schedules.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports to: Concrete Foreman / Project Manager
- Works with: Finishers, laborers, form crew, pump operator, site superintendent, inspectors
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate based on experience; overtime as applicable.
