Job Title: Concrete Foreman
Position Summary
The Concrete Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating field crews performing concrete work including layout, formwork, reinforcement placement, pours, finishing, curing, and cleanup. This role plans daily activities, ensures work is performed safely and to specification, maintains productivity and quality, and communicates effectively with the superintendent/project manager, inspectors, and other trades.
Key Responsibilities
Crew leadership and daily planning
- Lead a concrete crew and direct day-to-day operations to meet schedule, quality, and production goals.
- Plan daily work, assign tasks, and coordinate labor, equipment, and material needs.
- Review drawings, details, and specifications; communicate scope and expectations to the crew.
Concrete operations
- Oversee layout, elevations, and line/grade for concrete work (footers, walls, slabs, pads, piers, curb, etc.).
- Supervise form building/setting, stripping, reshoring/bracing, and protection of work.
- Coordinate reinforcing steel placement (bar size/spacing, chairs, laps, dowels, embeds), anchor bolts, sleeves, and inserts.
- Coordinate deliveries (concrete, rebar, base material), pump/placing operations, and finish sequencing.
- Ensure proper finishing methods (screed, bull float, edge, trowel, broom, stamping) and jointing/sawcut timing.
- Ensure curing and protection requirements are followed (curing compound, wet cure, blankets/heating/cold weather controls as needed).
Quality control and documentation
- Verify materials and installation conform to plans/specs and company standards.
- Perform pre-pour checks (forms, rebar, embeds, base compaction, elevations, clearances).
- Document daily production, manpower, equipment, deliveries, issues, and any rework/extra work.
Safety and compliance
- Enforce jobsite safety policies, PPE, and safe work practices (excavations, fall protection, equipment, silica control, etc.).
- Conduct or participate in daily pre-task plans / toolbox talks.
- Identify hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist; correct issues promptly.
Communication and coordination
- Coordinate with superintendent/PM, survey/layout, other trades, and owner/agency inspectors.
- Report progress, constraints, and upcoming needs; propose solutions to maintain schedule.
- Assist with training and coaching crew members; maintain crew accountability and standards.
Required Qualifications
- 3–7 years of hands-on concrete experience, including leadership/foreman responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to read plans/specs and execute work to line, grade, and tolerances.
- Strong working knowledge of formwork, reinforcement, placing/finishing, curing, and protection.
- Ability to plan work, lead crews, and coordinate equipment/material logistics.
- Strong safety mindset and ability to enforce company and site safety requirements.
- Reliable transportation and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 (OSHA 30 preferred).
- Experience with layout tools (laser, level, total station coordination) and documentation apps.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs routinely and perform physically demanding work (standing, kneeling, climbing, repetitive motion).
- Ability to work extended hours as required by schedule and pours.
Work Schedule / Conditions
- Full-time; overtime and early/late shifts may be required during pours and schedule-critical activities.
- Jobsite-based; travel to regional projects may be required.
