Mental Health Professional (MHP) / Mental Health Specialist (MHS)
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Position Type: Field-Based (Community Services)
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time
Hourly Rate: $20–$27/hour (based on education and experience)
Position Overview
The Mental Health Professional (MHP) / Mental Health Specialist (MHS) provides community-based behavioral health services to individuals and families. Services are delivered primarily in the field, including homes, schools, and community settings. The role focuses on improving daily functioning, emotional regulation, and overall mental wellness through individualized, recovery-oriented interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) and/or Community Psychiatric Support and Treatment (CPST) services in community settings
- Deliver skill-building interventions focused on:
- Coping skills
- Emotional regulation
- Social and interpersonal functioning
- Independent living skills
- Implement individualized treatment plans under clinical supervision
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with clients, families, and treatment team members
- Complete accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Louisiana Medicaid and agency standards
- Monitor client progress and report any concerns or changes in behavior
- Assist with crisis intervention and follow appropriate protocols when needed
- Maintain productivity standards and meet service delivery expectations
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements (MHS):
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related human services field required
Preferred / MHP Level:
- Master’s degree in a behavioral health field (Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, etc.)
Experience
- Experience working with individuals with mental health or behavioral health needs preferred
- Experience in community-based services or Medicaid-funded programs is a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a field-based environment
- Time management and organizational skills
- Basic understanding of mental health diagnoses and interventions
- Ability to build rapport with diverse populations
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to travel within the Baton Rouge area
- Must pass background checks and meet Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) requirements
