Job Description
Overview:
The purpose of this position is to facilitate a prompt and smooth process for benefit checks and empower our newly referred patients during the initial evaluation call to schedule. The NPC works closely with the Benefit Specialist and the Lead NPC to ensure all benefits and pre-auth needs are obtained, documented within the patient’s referral, and handed off to be tracked by the Lead NPC. The individual is efficient, detail oriented, organized, and has a high level of customer service skills. It is their primary goal to ensure the patients eligibility is verified, Physical/Occupational therapy specialty benefits are obtained, the financial expectations for the initial evaluation are clearly relayed over to the patient, and the patient receives a call to schedule within 24 hours. The New Patient Coordinator calls all locations (Anchorage, Palmer and Wasilla) incoming referrals. During contact with the patient, they ensure expectations are clear, and all necessary paperwork is received and completed in a timely manner. It is the New Patient Coordinator’s primary goal to remain clear, informative, and empowering throughout the scheduling process, and focuses on creating a “Wow” experience. By the end of the call, the NPC verifies the patient has clear expectations for the initial evaluation and knows where to come and what to bring so the patient is prepared to achieve their goals.

Location: In person training with opportunity for Hybrid/Remote work

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pulling documents from the fax queue
- Benefit checks
- Creating new accounts, verifying existing account information, and ensuring all pertinent information is received prior to scheduling
- Thoroughly review the referral for specialty details prior to calling the patient
- NPPW/Outcome measures: Text, Email, fax, or request they come in person 30-45 minutes early to complete
- Faxing scheduling notices
- Authorization tracking
- Calling patients back to provide benefit details prior to their initial evaluation (deductible, co-pays, and co-insurance details)
- Follow up on all cancelled or missed evaluations and re-evaluations for re-attempt of scheduling
- Assist in the annual benefit checks for all established and ongoing patients (January/annually)
- Ability to type 45 words per minute using word-processing software. Able to learn/use other computer programs including Microsoft® Excel, e-mail, and Internet.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with physical therapists and other staff.
- Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to work with little supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
- Work performed in office environment. Involves frequent contact with staff and patients. Requires ability to multitask at a high level.
