Responsibilities and more:
Covestro is seeking an experienced Principal Development Engineer to serve as the technical expert for the successful implementation of flexible and stretchable film substrates in printed electronics applications. This hands-on role will lead the design, execution, and management of laboratory and customer trials while developing innovative Specialty Films solutions for next-generation printed electronics.
The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional technical and commercial teams, oversee application development equipment and processes, support customers with technical expertise, and drive the commercialization of new technologies. This position also serves as a global subject matter expert supporting sales, business development, and engineering teams across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and execution of application development trials and experiments.
Develop innovative solutions using Specialty Films for printed electronics applications.
Design, install, and commission new laboratory and application development equipment.
Develop safe operating procedures for application development equipment.
Perform hands-on laboratory work and customer demonstrations.
Collaborate with engineering, commercial, and manufacturing teams.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for customers.
Maintain laboratory equipment, inventories, and testing materials.
Translate development activities into commercially viable products.
Serve as the global technical expert for printed electronics applications.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline.
6 years of relevant professional engineering experience.
Master's degree with 4 years of experience or Ph.D. with 2 years of experience also considered.
Experience with printed electronics or flexible electronics.
Strong understanding of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
Experience with laboratory testing and product development.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics.
Experience screen printing graphic or conductive inks on plastic films.
Experience with conductive adhesives and electronic component assembly.
Familiarity with circuit design.
Experience using AutoCAD.
Experience using Adobe Illustrator.
Experience using JMP or Minitab.
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
