The Motor Coach Electrical Systems Installer is responsible for installing, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems in motor coaches, buses, and custom coach conversions. This role ensures all electrical components are installed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and route electrical wiring, harnesses, and conduit throughout motor coaches
- Install and connect electrical components including lighting, switches, outlets, control panels, inverters, chargers, batteries, and power distribution systems
- Wire low-voltage (12V/24V) and high-voltage (120V/240V) AC systems
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
- Test electrical systems for proper operation, continuity, and safety
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues and perform necessary repairs
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety regulations, and manufacturer standards
- Secure wiring to prevent abrasion, vibration damage, or interference with moving parts
- Coordinate with fabrication, plumbing, HVAC, and interior installation teams
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly document work performed
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience installing electrical systems in motor coaches, RVs, buses, marine vessels, or similar mobile platforms
- Strong understanding of DC and AC electrical systems
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Familiarity with electrical safety practices and code compliance
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or vocational training in electrical systems
- Experience with custom motor coach or luxury RV conversions
- Knowledge of NEC, RVIA, or applicable transportation electrical standards
- Experience with solar power systems, battery management systems, and energy monitoring
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in confined spaces, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures and shop environments
Work Environment
- Manufacturing or custom fabrication shop
- Occasional exposure to noise, dust, and mechanical equipment
