Position Summary
The Banquet Captain is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of catered events, meetings, and hospitality functions both within our corporate dining facilities and at off-site locations. The Banquet Captain coordinates event setup and breakdown, supervises Banquet Attendants and event support staff, manages event supplies and beverage service preparation, and serves as the primary point of contact during assigned events. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvent Preparation & Setup
- Review Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), event diagrams, and service requirements prior to each event.
- Coordinate and execute event setup according to established standards and client specifications.
- Arrange tables, linens, décor, signage, food displays, beverage stations, and service areas.
- Ensure all event spaces are clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing before guest arrival.
- Create attractive food and beverage presentations that enhance the guest experience and reflect Ember Kitchen's standards.
- Pull and prepare beverages, disposables, condiments, service ware, and other nonkitchen event supplies.
- Verify all event materials, equipment, and supplies are available and ready for service.
- Serve as the onsite leader during assigned events.
- Direct and supervise Banquet Attendants and event staff throughout setup, service, and breakdown.
- Ensure events begin on time and are executed according to established timelines.
- Monitor food and beverage stations and coordinate replenishment as needed.
- Maintain a professional and guestfocused atmosphere throughout the event.
- Address guest questions, concerns, and service issues promptly and professionally.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, managers, and event hosts to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide direction, training, and support to Banquet Attendants and event staff.
- Delegate tasks appropriately and monitor performance throughout events.
- Ensure staff follow company policies, safety standards, and service expectations.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive work environment.
- Oversee event breakdown and cleanup activities.
- Ensure all equipment, supplies, and furnishings are properly cleaned, stored, and returned to designated locations.
- Assist with inventory management and restocking of event supplies.
- Report shortages, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns to management.
- Ensure event spaces are returned to their original condition following service.
- Maintain accurate event records, inventory logs, and equipment signout procedures as required.
- Assist with preparation and organization of future events.
- Support the Corporate Catering Manager and management team with operational needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programs, and company initiatives.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in catering, banquet service, hospitality, food service, or event operations.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical work for extended periods.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
- Previous experience as a Banquet Captain, Lead Server, Catering Supervisor, or similar hospitality leadership role.
- Experience with corporate dining, business catering, and special events.
