Duties

  • Prepare patients for ophthalmic examinations by obtaining intake information, reviewing medical histories, and explaining procedures clearly.
  • Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist in comprehensive assessments.
  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostic tests including tonometry (measuring intraocular pressure), A-scan biometry (ocular length measurement), and eye refraction to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Operate medical equipment with precision, ensuring proper calibration and aseptic technique to maintain clinical safety standards.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during examinations by handling diagnostic imaging equipment, maintaining patient comfort, and documenting findings accurately in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Uphold strict confidentiality policies in compliance with HIPAA regulations while managing sensitive medical records and patient information.
  • Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions, ensuring patient comfort, and delivering direct care that fosters trust and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a medical office setting, preferably within ophthalmology or optometry, demonstrating familiarity with medical terminology and clinical procedures.
  • Knowledge of physiology related to the eye and visual system to support accurate testing and patient education.
  • Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers, A-scans, and other ophthalmic instruments.
  • Experience managing electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems efficiently while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Strong understanding of clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA compliance to protect patient privacy at all times.
  • Ability to perform eye refraction tests accurately and assist with ophthalmic examinations while providing direct patient care.
  • Excellent communication skills combined with a friendly, service-oriented attitude to deliver exceptional patient care experiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing multiple responsibilities effectively.
