Title: Ophthalmic Technician
Reports to: Clinical Director / Clinic Manager 

Purpose:  Provide chair side assistance and administer treatment ordered by the doctor. Prepare exam rooms, escort patients to the room, and prepare the patient for the doctor. Perform an extensive number of data collection functions as delegated by the physician to allow for the proper diagnosis of patients’ condition. Demonstrate professional ophthalmic assistant skills.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Comply with state and national guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards and legal regulations. 
  • Open and close exam lanes daily; ensure equipment is sanitized and powered down appropriately. 
  • Perform patient workups, pre-exam testing, specialized testing, refractions, and other patient services as requested. 
  • Accurately record all information in the EMR system according to physician requirements. 
  • Assist in daily office cleaning and maintenance tasks. 
  • Collaborate across departments and assist other teams when needed. 
  • Maintain professional appearance and outstanding interpersonal skills. 
  • Meet physical demands including standing/walking for long periods and assisting wheelchair-bound patients. 
  • Other duties as assigned based on business needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This role requires the ability to sit, stand, and use a computer for extended periods, as well as frequent walking, patient interaction in a clinical setting, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma
  • Previous ophthalmic technician or medical assistant experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well with people, both internally and externally, using both written and verbal means
  • Exceptional keyboarding and computer skills; must type at least 45 WPM
  • Ability to work in a structured environment with a diverse workforce
  • Empathy toward patient and staff needs and concerns
  • Strong attention to detail while demonstrating multitasking skills
  • Ability to make quick, accurate, and appropriate decisions
  • Ability to treat patients and co-workers with respect
  • Ability to motivate and help train new staff
