A leading utility contractor is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction efforts on complex underground power transmission and distribution projects across Southern California. This role requires a proven background estimating at-risk construction work and deep familiarity with utility-driven infrastructure programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of full-scope, competitive cost estimates for underground power T&D projects
- Perform and oversee detailed takeoffs, pricing strategies, and bid packaging
- Analyze labor productivity, equipment utilization, subcontractor scope, and material costs
- Review utility standards, drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Drive bid strategy, risk assessment, and value engineering discussions
- Coordinate with project management, field leadership, and vendors during preconstruction
- Support awarded projects with budget validation, change order pricing, and cost forecasting
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to estimating process improvements
Required Qualifications
- 12–15 years of construction industry experience, with 8–10 years in at-risk construction estimating
- Strong experience estimating underground power transmission and distribution projects
- Direct estimating exposure to SDG&E, PG&E, SCE, or similar investor-owned utilities
- Candidates whose background is primarily client-side budget estimating will not be considered
- Proficiency with estimating software and advanced Excel-based cost modeling
- Ability to lead estimates independently and present pricing to leadership
Preferred Experience
- Estimating experience for substations, power plants, or complex utility facilities
- Leadership experience within an estimating or preconstruction team
- Local market knowledge of Southern California labor, production rates, and utility standards

Salary : $125,000 - $160,000
