Job Summary
The Head Softball Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and management of the softball program. This position provides direction in all aspects of the program, including coaching, student-athlete development, program organization, and compliance with district and TSSAA guidelines. The Head Coach fosters a positive, competitive environment that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic success while supporting the district's mission of Experience Excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the softball program, including practices, games, and offseason activities.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive program that builds fundamental skills, advanced techniques, and game strategies.
- Establish program goals and evaluate progress toward achieving competitive excellence.
- Instruct student-athletes in rules, regulations, and proper techniques of softball.
- Plan and conduct effective practices that promote individual and team development.
- Prepare athletes physically and mentally for competition.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and respect among student-athletes.
- Promote academic success and monitor student-athlete eligibility and progress.
- Foster positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a mentor and role model.
- Emphasize character development, leadership, and personal responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all TSSAA regulations, school board policies, and district expectations.
- Supervise student-athletes during all team activities, including practices and competitions.
- Ensure ethical conduct and exemplary sportsmanship among players, staff, and spectators.
- Maintain accurate records, including eligibility, rosters, and required documentation.
- Coordinate schedules, practices, and facility usage with the Athletic Director and other coaches.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school administration, and community stakeholders.
- Manage inventory, equipment, uniforms, and budget responsibly.
- Organize and oversee transportation arrangements in coordination with school personnel.
- Provide guidance and support to coaching staff to ensure alignment with program goals.
- Promote the softball program within the school and community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior coaching experience in softball or a related sport, preferably at the high school level or higher.
- Demonstrated knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
- Knowledge of TSSAA rules and regulations
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Must meet all district employment requirements, including background check and fingerprinting.
