Chef Sujan Sarkar’s newest concept, Elder, is a modern British Indian chophouse opening in New York City. Elder blends the bold flavors and spices of India with the warmth, tradition, and refinement of a classic British chophouse.
We are seeking motivated, hospitality-driven Food Runners to join our opening front-of-house team. This role is essential to the success of service and plays a critical part in maintaining the flow, timing, and execution of the guest experience.
The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of urgency and teamwork. Food Runners are responsible for delivering dishes accurately, efficiently, and with precision while maintaining clear communication between the kitchen and dining room teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Execution
- Deliver food to guests quickly, accurately, and professionally
- Ensure all dishes are delivered to the correct tables, seats, and guests
- Maintain strong awareness of table numbers, seat positions, and dining room flow
- Support smooth communication between kitchen and front-of-house teams
- Assist in maintaining proper pacing and timing of courses throughout service
- Ensure dishes are presented cleanly and according to restaurant standards before leaving the kitchen
Team Support
- Work closely with Captains, Servers, and support staff to ensure seamless service
- Communicate clearly and effectively with kitchen and management teams
- Assist with dining room support during service as needed
- Support station organization and maintain cleanliness throughout service
- Respond quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
Standards & Professionalism
- Maintain strong attention to detail during all service periods
- Uphold all service standards, cleanliness expectations, and grooming requirements
- Arrive prepared, organized, and ready to contribute to service success
- Participate in pre-service meetings, trainings, and ongoing education
- 1–2 years of experience in upscale dining, fine dining, or high-volume restaurant environments preferred
- Steakhouse or fine dining experience preferred
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to work efficiently under pressure
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Professional appearance and positive attitude
- Ability to stand, walk, and carry trays for extended periods
