Chef Sujan Sarkar’s newest concept, Elder, is a modern British Indian chophouse opening in New York City. Elder blends the bold flavors and spices of India with the warmth, tradition, and refinement of a classic British chophouse.
We are seeking polished, hospitality-driven Captains to join our opening front-of-house team. This role is ideal for professionals who thrive in fast-paced, high-performance dining environments and take pride in delivering exceptional service with precision, warmth, and confidence.
The Captain is a leadership role on the dining room floor, responsible for guiding the guest experience from start to finish while ensuring service standards are executed at the highest level. This position requires strong floor awareness, professionalism, communication, and the ability to lead by example during service.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Leadership & Execution
- Lead service within assigned stations with confidence, professionalism, and strong floor awareness
- Deliver polished, attentive, and personalized service throughout every guest interaction
- Maintain exceptional knowledge of food, beverage, wine, and cocktail offerings
- Guide guests through the menu while confidently making recommendations and enhancing the dining experience
- Ensure proper pacing, course timing, and seamless table maintenance throughout service
- Anticipate guest needs and resolve challenges proactively and professionally
Guest Experience
- Create genuine and memorable guest experiences through thoughtful hospitality
- Build strong rapport with guests while maintaining professionalism and service standards
- Handle guest requests and concerns with confidence, urgency, and emotional intelligence
- Support VIP and high-profile guest experiences with discretion and attention to detail
Teamwork & Standards
- Work collaboratively with FOH and BOH teams to ensure seamless service execution
- Maintain strong communication with management, support staff, and kitchen teams
- Lead by example through professionalism, urgency, and accountability
- Support team members as needed to maintain smooth operations during service
- Participate in pre-service meetings, trainings, and ongoing education
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in fine dining, upscale hospitality, or premium high-volume restaurants
- Steakhouse experience preferred
- Strong food and beverage knowledge, including wine and spirits
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership presence and ability to command a station effectively
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask under pressure
- Professional demeanor with polished presentation
- Team-oriented mindset with strong work ethic and accountability
