Position Overview
The Pool Director is responsible for the overall management, safety, and operation of the camp’s pool facilities and aquatic programs. This includes supervising staff, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, and ensuring a high-quality instructional and recreational swim program.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Safety
- Direct and supervise all pool activities
- In collaboration with the Camp Directors, develop and enforce policies regarding pool closures
- Ensure all aquatic programming aligns with American Red Cross guidelines
- Oversee instructional swimming program
- Perform other related duties in coordination with the Camp Director
Staff Management & Training
- Train and support pool staff during preseason training and throughout the summer
- Assign staff roles to effectively support both instructional and recreational swim programs
- Supervise Group Counselors while they are assisting instructors and lifeguards
- Maintain staff schedules and coordinate any planned absences to ensure the pools ratios are correct
- Monitor lifeguard staff performance, provide feedback and address concerns promptly
Camper Instruction & Evaluation
- Assess and classify campers’ swimming abilities
- Oversee the Deep-Water Band evaluation, ensuring lifeguards are properly administering and completing the test while campers accurately demonstrate required skills in accordance with standards
- Adjust swimming levels as appropriate throughout the season
- Communicate with parents as needed regarding swimmer progress
Operations & Facility Management
- Maintain pool facilities, equipment, and supply inventory
- Ensure daily pool operations meet all safety and cleanliness standards
- Monitor and record hourly pH and chlorine levels in compliance with health department regulations
Administrative Responsibilities
- Attend required meetings, including:
- Pre- and post-season supervisory meetings
- Specialist training sessions (June)
- “Big Saturday” and “Meet the Staff Day” events
- Participate in daily Specialist meetings and weekly check-ins (or delegate appropriately)
- Coordinate pool schedules and staffing for special events in collaboration with the Specialty Head Counselor
- Maintain ongoing communication with Camp Directors regarding program updates, needs, and any issues
- Organize private and small-group swimming lessons, if requested
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
