Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Accounting Assistant to join our finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support various accounting functions within a dynamic organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, familiarity with multiple financial software platforms, and a solid understanding of GAAP and governmental accounting principles. The Accounting Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accuracy.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliation and review financial data for discrepancies or errors.
- Support payroll management using systems such as ADP, Kronos, UltiPro, or Ceridian, including data entry and payroll processing.
- Prepare and review financial reports, including budget reports, financial statements, and audit documentation.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal policies during all accounting activities.
- Utilize various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Workday, Paychex, or similar platforms for data entry and reporting.
- Assist with tax preparation activities and ensure adherence to relevant tax regulations.
- Support audit preparations by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
- Maintain organized records of all financial transactions in accordance with company policies.
Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP, governmental accounting, and public accounting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Workday, ADP, Kronos, UltiPro, Ceridian or similar platforms.
- Experience with financial concepts, including debits & credits, double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Knowledge of payroll management systems like Paychex or ADP along with experience in payroll processing.
- Familiarity with tax regulations, budgeting, and financial analysis techniques.
- Excellent data entry skills with high accuracy (10 key typing).
- Strong analytical skills for account analysis and account reconciliation tasks.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data while maintaining attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across departments and support external audits.
