What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jack & Slide Technician position at Edwards Moving and Rigging?
JACK & SLIDE TECHNICIAN
Edwards Moving & Rigging | Nationwide Projects
When something weighs hundreds of tons and needs to move just a few feet, those might be the most important feet of the entire project.
Some people look at a massive transformer, generator, or piece of industrial machinery and wonder how anyone could possibly move it.
You look at it and start thinking about hydraulic jacks, slide tracks, cribbing, load distribution, and the safest way to get it where it needs to go.
That's the kind of person we're looking for.
At Edwards Moving & Rigging, we're searching for experienced Jack & Slide Technicians who understand that moving extremely heavy equipment isn't about brute force.
It's about knowledge. Preparation. Precision. Teamwork. And knowing what can happen when even the smallest detail is overlooked.
If you've worked with hydraulic jacking systems, sliding equipment, and specialized heavy rigging, we want to talk with you.
What You'll Do
As a Jack & Slide Technician at Edwards, you'll work alongside experienced rigging professionals to lift, move, position, and install some of the heaviest industrial equipment in the country.
You'll:
· Perform hydraulic jack and slide operations involving transformers, generators, industrial machinery, and other oversized equipment.
· Set up, operate, and dismantle hydraulic jacking systems, slide tracks, skid systems, and associated equipment.
· Assist with load positioning, leveling, cribbing, blocking, and securement.
· Work with hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, and related components to help ensure controlled movement.
· Read and interpret rigging plans, lift plans, equipment specifications, and jobsite instructions.
· Inspect hydraulic equipment, rigging components, and tools before and after use.
· Help prepare equipment for loading, unloading, and transportation.
· Recognize potential hazards and communicate concerns before they become problems.
· Work closely with rigging crews, supervisors, and project teams during complex equipment moves.
· Support hydraulic gantry operations, machinery moving, and other specialized rigging activities when needed.
· Travel to project locations throughout the United States.
This isn't about simply getting something from Point A to Point B.
It's about knowing how to get it there safely, accurately, and without compromising the equipment, the crew, or the surrounding environment.
You Understand That Inches Matter
Anyone who has worked with jack and slide systems knows that the actual movement is only part of the job.
The real work starts long before the load moves.
You need to understand:
· Hydraulics. How pumps, cylinders, hoses, and related equipment work together to move and control heavy loads.
· Load distribution. Where the weight is going and how it affects the equipment supporting it.
· Center of gravity. Why understanding the load is critical before movement begins.
· Cribbing and blocking. How to properly support, stabilize, and secure heavy equipment.
· Slide systems. How to set up and use tracks, skids, and associated equipment for controlled movement.
· Rigging plans. How to interpret technical instructions and execute the move as planned.
· Communication. Why everyone involved needs to understand what's happening before, during, and after movement.
When you're moving equipment this heavy, a few inches can make a very big difference.
And the people who understand that are the people we want on our team.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for experienced professionals who bring:
· Previous hands-on experience performing hydraulic jack and slide operations in industrial or heavy rigging environments.
· Working knowledge of hydraulic jacking systems, sliding equipment, cribbing, and load movement techniques.
· Experience safely moving and positioning heavy industrial machinery or oversized equipment.
· An understanding of load distribution, center of gravity, and proper rigging practices.
· The ability to work safely around high-capacity hydraulic equipment and supported or suspended loads.
· The ability to read and follow technical instructions and engineered rigging plans.
· Strong equipment inspection and hazard-recognition skills.
· A commitment to safe execution and established rigging procedures.
· The ability to work effectively as part of an experienced crew.
· A willingness to travel nationwide and work varying schedules based on project requirements.
· The physical ability to perform demanding work in industrial, construction, and outdoor environments.
Even Better If You Have Experience With:
· Moving transformers, generators, industrial machinery, or other high-value equipment.
· Hydraulic gantry systems.
· Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs).
· Machinery moving, plant relocations, or industrial equipment installation.
· Complex engineered heavy-lift procedures.
· OSHA training or other relevant rigging and safety certifications.
You don't need experience with every piece of equipment we use.
But you do need to understand how heavy loads behave, how hydraulic systems work, and why proper setup matters.
Travel Is Part of the Opportunity
The equipment we move doesn't always happen to be conveniently located near home.
Our projects take us to industrial facilities and jobsites throughout the United States.
That means nationwide travel is part of this position.
You'll encounter different equipment, different environments, different lifting and sliding challenges, and opportunities to apply your experience on projects that are anything but routine.
If you're looking for the same location and the same work every day, this may not be the right fit.
But if you enjoy solving difficult problems, working with specialized equipment, and seeing the results of your efforts, keep reading.
Why Edwards?
Because if you've spent years learning how to move the things most people can't, you deserve the opportunity to put those skills to work.
At Edwards Moving & Rigging, we specialize in heavy lifting, specialized transportation, machinery moving, and complex rigging solutions throughout the United States.
Our crews work on projects that require technical expertise, preparation, teamwork, and sound judgment.
At Edwards, you can expect:

Anybody Can See the Load. Not Everybody Knows How to Move It.
You know the importance of proper cribbing.
You understand hydraulic pressure and load distribution.
You know why leveling matters.
You understand that every component needs to be inspected.
You recognize that moving a load a few feet can require hours of preparation.
And you know that when the load finally starts moving, everyone on the crew needs to be paying attention.
That's the kind of experience we're looking for.
If you're an experienced Jack & Slide Technician who takes pride in the trade, respects the equipment, understands the mechanics behind the move, and wants to be part of a team that handles some of the most challenging industrial moves in the country, we'd like to hear from you.
Massive loads. Tight clearances. Precise movements. Skilled people.
Bring your experience. Let's move something extraordinary.
