SUMMARY
ESC has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant I to support a premier non-profit Healthcare organization specializing in Air Medical Transport in its financial operations. Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Accountant is responsible for performing accounting operations in an independent manner and in compliance with departmental quality standards for timeliness, accuracy, workpaper presentation, supporting documentation and the creation or maintenance of related policies and procedures. This role requires a continuous focus on improvement and active participation in process enhancement teams. The position works onsite in Waukesha, WI, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain knowledge of and proficiency with financial accounting systems that support the financial operations of the organization.
- Assist the Sr. Medical Reimbursement Specialist as needed.
- Ensure timely completion of credit card reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly accruals, journal entries, and reports to ensure a timely and accurate month-end close. Ensure sub-ledgers reconcile to the GL.
- Perform monthly reconciliations on assigned accounts; independently research and resolve variances.
- Participate in month-end close process, ensuring a timely and accurate close and distribution of Financial Statements to stakeholders.
- Participate in annual audit process, including preparation of assigned audit workpapers, confirmations, and responding to auditor requests in a timely manner.
- Participate in the annual Budget process for assigned areas.
- Help establish and maintain policies, procedures and practices relating to accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and fixed asset accounting.
- Process monthly depreciation journal entries.
- Participate in cross-training with all members of the finance team to ensure the department has sustainable processes in place.
- Facilitate a culture of continuous process improvement and open, respectful communication.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or an Associate’s Degree and 2 years of experience in financial accounting.
- Proficient knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to apply such knowledge to accounting and financial reporting activities.
- Experience in a complex, automated accounting environment with duties in the areas of Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, financial analysis, financial statement preparation, complex spreadsheet preparation, account reconciliation, and journal entries.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to efficiently meet internal and external deadlines while consistently producing high quality products.
- Excellent technical skills and advanced technology skills, including Excel, Word, and use of integrated accounting software.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries from auditors, regulatory agencies, the executive team, and colleagues in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Non-profit experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central.
- Public accounting experience.
