POSITION: Accounting Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or finance-related fields.

Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, procedures, and reporting requirements.

Proficiency in accounting software (LINQ preferred), Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting systems.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

School finance experience, preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Fiscal Services
JOB GOAL:
To support the financial operations of Edgecombe County Public Schools by ensuring accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with state, local, and federal requirements, while providing guidance and training to school-based bookkeepers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive and record e-receipts, checks, and money orders; prepare daily bank deposits.

Post monies in LINQ (general ledger) and enter miscellaneous journal entries.

Process wire transfers as needed.

Prepare and submit MAC quarterly report and annual Cost Report.

Submit grant reimbursement requests and complete monthly FSRs for DEPC.

Prepare and submit required reports, including the Local Government Commission (LGC) report.

Manage yearly unclaimed property/escheats for Central Office and schools.

Calculate and post STIF interest earned for the district.

Request substitute reimbursement from outside agencies.

Serve as liaison and trainer for school bookkeepers, providing guidance and support on financial procedures.

Review charter school invoices, calculate per pupil allotments, and submit to Accounts Payable for payment.

Audit schools’ accounting records to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Fiscal Services.
MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12
SALARY: Edgecombe County Public Schools Finance Department Salary Schedule, plus local supplement.
EVALUATION:
Annually, using the Edgecombe County Public Schools Classified Performance Appraisal Instrument.
