Crystallizer Helper

I.       POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Employee works in conjunction with Operator or Assistant Operator in the Crystallizer system.   Employee’s main responsibility is to ensure sodium sulfate solution provided by the Scrubber is processed by producing anhydrous sodium sulfate crystals and recyclable condensate all within environmental guidelines and product specifications, to load the product into specified containers (trailers, railcars and others deemed necessary) and prepare all the associated documentation. Must be able to keep production logs.

      1. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operates pumps, valves, conveyors, controls, meters, gauges and all equipment associated with the processes.      
• Collects and analyzes various samples along the process, observes variations in operating conditions and interprets instrument readings and test results to make necessary control adjustments to maintain a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation while producing quality product.
• Makes necessary control adjustments to maintain an efficient and environmentally compliant operation.
• Maintains required daily shift reports, inspections, process logs, and production logs. 
• Operates mobile equipment including Forklift, Shuttle Wagon, Yard Truck, Roll-off Truck, MC Cart, Man lift and Skid Steer. 
• Report missing or damaged signs be it, environmental, safety, nameplates, POU, and any associated to lean manufacturing, and see to it that they are replaced.  
• Ensure backup is assigned to complete inspection if primary inspector is absent and ensure the deficiencies are noted and corrective measures documented on the forms.
• Understand internal customer/supplier relationships and how they impact the Crystallizer and other departments in the facility.
• Assure that materials are contained and cleaned up to minimize spread until repairs are made.
• Report materials as they are used, to keep materials in stock.
• Keeps work area neat, clean, free of debris and obstacles within all the concepts established by lean manufacturing principles.
• All EH&S issues, be it items or situation reported by another employee or through the EHS audit system, must be resolved immediately by both addressing the situation and notifying the supervisor.
• Other duties and systems as assigned.

     2. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:

• Possess a valid US Driver’s License.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience driving heavy equipment.
• Computer skills (MS Office package).
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Able to perform physical labor.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

     3. PRE-PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 6 months as Crystallizer Helper.
• Environmental training applicable to the job.
• Safety training for applicable equipment.
• Job instructional training.
• ISO 9001 familiarization.
• ISO 14001, ISO 18001 and ISO 50001 awareness, objectives and targets, department significant environmental impacts.
• Certified on Forklift, Shuttle Wagon, Yard Truck, roll off truck, MC Cart, Man Lift and Skid Steer.
• LEAN JTE awareness, objectives, targets and participation.
• Pass evaluation test. 

NOTE: Candidate will be asked to take the test based on merit and once deemed competent, by supervisor and manager, in all areas and systems that comprise the crystallizer department. 

     4. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is required to talk, hear, climb and balance.   The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, and with chemicals and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The employee occasionally works outside and is exposed to extreme weather conditions.   The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Employee must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
