Pediatric Anesthesiologist W-2 Opportunity at ECU Health Medical Center an Maynard’s Children’s in Greenville, NC!

Maynard’s Children’s Hospital, a facility a part of ECU Health Medical Center, has a total of 200 beds/bassinets and is a level IV NICU with 71 beds. Our NICU is one of the largest in the state and is a 29-county referral center for pediatric surgery! Staffed with exceptionally trained experts, our pediatric team cares for the most vulnerable in the community, and takes on the challenge of performing cases with some of the highest levels of acuity in the field and on par with isolated children’s hospitals. Due to the diverse and expansive case volume and mix at this impressive level I trauma center, this position also allows for the incumbent to manage their own cases, mentor SRNAs/SAAs, CRNAs and CAAs, as well as maintain their adult skills and acuity.

The pediatric surgical services at Maynard’s and ECU Health are actively expanding their subspecialty lines. Our NICU is expanding and a significant increase in volume is anticipated over the next few years.

Overview

The incumbent will provide and manage anesthesia for infants, children, and adolescents during surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, as well as have the opportunity to maintain adult skills due the impressive Level 1 size of ECU Health. The core responsibilities of this position include conducting pre-operative evaluations, creating individualized anesthesia plans, monitoring patients' vital signs, managing pain, and ensuring safe recovery. They must also communicate effectively with families and the healthcare team, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Case Specifics

The pediatric anesthesiologist will be performing pediatric cases all the time, but will also be performing general anesthesia for adult and geriatric populations. Anesthetics are provided for over 4,000 pediatric cases per year. Current pediatric cases include routine and complex general surgery, neurosurgery, plastics and craniofacial surgery, orthopedics, ENT, urology, transplant (renal). Cardiac surgery is limited to bedside PDA. Surgical cases are consistent with these most complex children and include occasional bedside cases. Regional anesthesia is a routine service provided for post op pain management. In addition to anesthesia for surgical services, we provide pediatric anesthesia for offsite locations like radiology, cardiac cath lab, audiology, pulmonary, GI, heme/onc procedures and radiation treatments.

Schedule And Call

We offer a schedule that is truly flexible and conducive for modern day families. We are more than willing to work with an anesthesiologist to build a schedule that meets daily needs, and helps create a work/life balance that works for their family.

Call shifts are a mix of pediatric (mostly) and general - call averages to 1-2 days/week with average clinical work hours 40-45 hours. Some in-house overnight shifts with pre and post-call day off. The majority of the rest of call is pediatric backup (late person with back up at home on pager after 7pm). Call in rate is < 5%. Post-call day is early out.
