What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook - Youth Facility position at Eaton County?
Under the direction and immediate supervision of the Youth Facility Director and the Youth Facility Deputy Director, or in their absence the Supervisor on shift, essential functions include following menu plans to prepare balanced meals for program participants, maintain a commercial kitchen, supervising program participants in food preparation and kitchen maintenance activities.
Starting pay is dependent on an applicant's relevant experience.

- Reviews menu plans and determines quantities sufficient for preparation of meals.
- Completes preliminary food preparation tasks such as paring vegetables, slicing meats and preparing salads.
- Follows instructions in preparing special meals conforming to individual dietary requirements.
- Prepares a variety of meal items that include making baked goods, cooking a variety of meats, preparing vegetable dishes and other. Sets up lighter meals with cereals, sandwich items, fruits, etc.
- Responsible for daily cleaning of appliances, utensils, floors and the general kitchen area.
- Regularly monitors equipment and utensil levels.
- Follows established security and regulatory practices.
- Train and assist other cooks in the completion of all required kitchen duties.
- Document and calculate meals served per day, per month.
- Process claim reimbursement and other various paperwork as required and assigned.
- Adheres to all established or assigned standards of conduct while working in the kitchen.
Other Functions
12. Assists in the ordering and stocking of food.
Education: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Prefer some advanced coursework in nutrition and related areas.
Experience: Some previous experience in cooking for large groups. Knowledge of school lunch program.

- Majority of time in institutional kitchen setting.
- Works with oven, freezer, blenders, steamer and various pieces of kitchen equipment.
- Exposure to hot stove, hot trays of food, hot water and steam.
- Works with sharp knives and other utensils.
- Works with program participants.
- Exposure to chemical cleaning products.
Salary : $34,632 - $44,990
