What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Social Studies Teacher/ Boys Coach position at Eastland Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area of Social Studies designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. In addition, assist in the development and success of the boys athletic programs, including football, basketball, and track, by coaching, mentoring, and promoting student-athlete development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (or appropriate state certification) in Social Studies
- CDL (or willingness to obtain, if required)
- Coaching certification/experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject matter and coaching fundamentals
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards (TEKS)
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and student success
- Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student performance
- Communicate regularly with parents, students, and staff
Coaching Responsibilities:
- Assist with or lead coaching duties in football, basketball, and track
- Plan and conduct practices, drills, and conditioning programs
- Teach fundamental skills, strategies, and sportsmanship
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and travel
- Ensure compliance with UIL rules and district policies
- Promote academic success and character development in student-athletes
Program & Campus Involvement:
- Support and participate in athletic events and school activities
- Collaborate with other coaches and staff to build a successful athletic program
- Serve as a positive role model for students both in and out of the classroom
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and campus committees
Working Conditions:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
- Extended hours, including evenings and weekends for games and events
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions for athletics
Salary:
- Based on the district salary schedule (teaching coaching stipends)
