Brookfield Construction

Assistant Superintendent

Location: Based in Vineland, NJ, with regular travel to active project sites throughout South Jersey.

Learn the Field. Build the Future. Grow into Leadership.

Brookfield Construction has specialized in affordable housing construction in New Jersey for more than four decades. Our team brings extensive experience across residential, multifamily, commercial, institutional, rehabilitation, and historic-preservation projects. We build many of the communities our affiliated property management team operates, giving employees the opportunity to see how thoughtful construction supports residents for years to come.

We are seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support the safe, organized, and high-quality execution of active construction projects from mobilization through closeout. Working closely with the Senior Superintendent and Vice President of Construction, you will maintain a visible field presence, coordinate subcontractors and inspections, document progress, identify issues early, and help keep work moving according to plan. This is an excellent opportunity for a trade-school graduate, apprentice, or early-career construction professional who wants hands-on experience and a path toward field leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent daily presence on assigned projects and represent Brookfield Construction professionally.
  • Conduct routine site walks to review safety, housekeeping, manpower, workmanship, materials, access, and progress.
  • Help enforce company safety requirements and immediately address or escalate unsafe conditions.
  • Track subcontractor attendance, crew size, active work, upcoming needs, missed commitments, and corrective work.
  • Confirm manpower, deliveries, inspections, sequencing, and completion dates with subcontractors.
  • Prepare accurate daily reports, including weather, manpower, completed work, deliveries, inspections, delays, photographs, and significant events.
  • Coordinate municipal, utility, third-party, and special inspections and document results and follow-up items.
  • Assist with short-term planning, trade sequencing, staging, deliveries, site logistics, and schedule communication.
  • Compare field work with approved plans, specifications, scopes, and quality standards and report discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain deficiency and punch lists, track responsible parties, and verify completed corrections.
  • Organize plans, permits, inspection records, RFIs, submittals, safety records, change documentation, and closeout information.
  • Communicate field conflicts, quality concerns, schedule risks, inspection failures, and subcontractor performance issues early.

Qualifications

  • Trade or technical school education, apprenticeship experience, construction coursework, or early field experience is welcome.
  • Two or more years of field experience in residential, multifamily, commercial, or related construction is preferred but not required.
  • Single-family residential construction experience is especially relevant.
  • Basic understanding of construction sequencing, jobsite safety, inspections, quality control, and trade coordination.
  • Ability to read or learn to interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and schedules.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, written communication, and willingness to hold others accountable respectfully.
  • Comfort using email, smartphones, tablets, Microsoft Office, and digital construction platforms; Buildertrend experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel among active project sites. Approved business mileage between project sites is reimbursed in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
  • Ability to work safely on active sites, walk uneven terrain, use stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, and work in changing weather.
  • Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday during daytime construction hours, with occasional early starts or adjusted hours based on project needs.

Pay and Benefits

  • Full-time, W-2 employment.
  • Pay: $36,000 per year, plus overtime compensation when applicable.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement plan.
  • Paid time off.
  • Hands-on training and direct exposure to experienced construction leadership.
  • Opportunity to grow into greater field supervision and project responsibility.
  • Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements and plan terms.

Why Brookfield Construction?
