Mechanical Seal Repair Technician - Midland, MI

Responsibilities

  • Receive and evaluate returned parts/materials from customers and branches to determine repairability based on condition, drawings, and product knowledge.
  • Identify and inspect returned materials, ensuring components are clean, free from foreign material, and structured correctly for repair, pricing, and assembly.
  • Perform repairs on seals and seal parts with limited supervision, verifying bills of materials, drawings, repairing parts, and assembling seals once components are ready.
  • Operate basic shop equipment (drill press, tool post grinder, bead blast polisher, lapping machine) and set up/troubleshoot lapping machines as needed.
  • Measure and verify part specifications using tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and optical flats.
  • Create service notifications, order components, maintain repair records/inventory, and process job closeouts and shipping in SAP.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Sales, and vendors as needed; initiate purchase orders and interact with customers on service or pricing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work environment and assist in training new repair personnel as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical seal equipment experience (or comparable experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, power, or upstream markets) plus 6–12 months of on-the-job training.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Strong communication skills; able to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings with customers, clients, and colleagues.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Problem-solving skills for situations involving multiple concrete variables in standardized settings.
  • Comfortable working independently and unsupervised for extended periods.
  • Ability to balance hands-on mechanical work with computer-based tasks.
