Summary

The Safety and Security Manager position oversees all Duchesne Academy safety-related operations, ensuring the safety and security of students and adults. The majority of the working hours will be spent specifically on security duties and the remainder on safety responsibilities.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide school security duties, including patrolling the campus buildings and grounds.
  • Supervise on-campus security contractors and police officers.
  • Collaborate with local public safety and law enforcement to ensure the timely response to danger occurring on or around the campus.
  • Control building and campus access by being visible within the school community and following visitor entry protocols.
  • Communicate security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using established protocols.
  • Facilitate emergency preparedness planning and training, including fire and weather drills, and lockdown scenarios.
  • Assist in developing proactive and preventative crisis/crime prevention and response plans, including disturbances and threats.
  • Assist with facility security systems, including door locks, programming key FOBs, fire alarms, etc.
  • Remain up to date on safety and security techniques, policies, laws, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

  • GED or HS Diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Ten or more years of work experience in law enforcement, or similar experience required.
  • Experience in PK3-12th grade school environments preferred.
  • Must be available to work evening and weekend events.


Physical Demands

May be required to push, pull, or lift 50 or more pounds; ability to surveil and ambulate across the campus to assess or respond to safety and/or security risks. Long periods of remaining at one station; includes the use of office equipment to provide documented reports regarding campus incidents; frequent loud and or sudden noises; possible exposure to odors, fumes, and/or toxins; must be able to respond to emergency events timely and appropriately; ability to communicate, comprehend, and follow directions; use of radio or telephone to contact appropriate agencies to report emergency events; may work in extreme temperatures; can be periods of little activity or extremely stressful events.

Upon Hiring

  • Successful completion of criminal offender record and sexual offender registry checks.
  • Successful completion of CMG Safe Environment Training.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Appropriate safety and security OSHA training.

  • Appropriately carry out specific duties as determined by the Head of School and/or supervisor. 
  • Maintain professional credentials and complete required training. Participate in and provide documentation for at least one professional development opportunity per year in addition to those required and provided by the school. 
  • Respect the confidentiality of the school, its employees, students, and families. 
  • Comply with the policies and procedures as articulated in the faculty and staff handbook. 
  • Authentically engage in the school’s self-reflection process that requires written goals and measured progress towards them.
