Speech-Language Pathologist (K-8)

Location: DuBois Integrity Academy
Reports To: Director of Special Education

Position Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and providing speech-language services to students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade who demonstrate communication disorders that adversely impact educational performance. The SLP collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that support students' communication development and academic success.

The ideal candidate is a student-centered professional who possesses strong clinical expertise, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to fostering equitable educational opportunities for all learners.


Key Responsibilities

Evaluation and Assessment

  • Conduct comprehensive speech-language screenings, evaluations, and re-evaluations in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Identify students with speech, language, voice, fluency, and communication disorders that impact educational performance.
  • Administer and interpret formal and informal assessments to determine eligibility for special education services.
  • Prepare timely and comprehensive evaluation reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and eligibility determinations.

Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development and Compliance

  • Develop measurable speech-language goals and objectives that align with students' educational needs.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Georgia Department of Education guidelines, and school policies.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, service logs, progress monitoring data, and required documentation.
  • Complete all Medicaid billing and documentation requirements, if applicable.

Direct and Indirect Therapy Services

  • Provide individual and small-group speech-language therapy services in accordance with students' IEPs.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and interventions to address communication disorders and support academic achievement.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies and interventions as needed.
  • Incorporate assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies when appropriate.
  • Provide consultation services and classroom-based support to facilitate the generalization of communication skills.

Collaboration and Consultation

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Provide strategies and recommendations to classroom teachers to enhance communication skills within instructional settings.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, recommendations, and strategies for reinforcement at home.
  • Participate in Student Support Team (SST), Response to Intervention (RTI), eligibility, and IEP meetings.
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding speech-language development and communication disorders.

Professional Development and Leadership

  • Provide professional development and training to staff regarding speech and language development, communication strategies, and accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Remain current on best practices, research, and emerging trends in speech-language pathology and special education.
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities and maintain all required certifications and licensure.
  • Support school-wide initiatives that promote inclusive educational practices and student achievement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Georgia Speech-Language Pathology License or eligibility for licensure.
  • Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Speech-Language Pathology or eligibility for certification.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) preferred; Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and special education regulations and procedures.
  • Experience conducting evaluations and developing IEPs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a school setting.
  • Experience serving students in grades K-8.
  • Experience working with diverse learners, including students with autism, developmental delays, and multiple disabilities.
  • Experience utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout the school building and classrooms.
  • Ability to provide therapy services in various educational settings.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and transport instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
