Maintenance Manager - Corrugated Packaging Manufacturing (Massachusetts)
Position Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and reliability functions within a high-volume corrugated packaging manufacturing facility. This role ensures equipment uptime, asset reliability, safety compliance, and cost-effective maintenance operations by overseeing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, technical expertise, and a continuous improvement mindset within an industrial manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of maintenance supervisors, technicians, and planners.
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for safety, productivity, and quality.
- Support training and skill development in electrical, mechanical, and automation disciplines.
- Partner with operations and engineering to align maintenance priorities with production goals.
Maintenance Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability and lifecycle performance.
- Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of critical equipment issues in a timely manner.
- Manage maintenance planning and scheduling to optimize labor and parts utilization.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and root cause analysis (RCA) processes.
- Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track performance metrics and drive improvements.
- Identify and implement process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency gains.
- Support capital improvement projects, including equipment upgrades and installations.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA, environmental, and state regulations in Massachusetts.
- Promote a culture of safety and enforce safe work practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action planning.
Budget & Resource Management
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets, including labor, parts, and capital expenditures.
- Control inventory levels for spare parts and critical components.
- Evaluate vendor performance and manage contractor relationships.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7-10 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- 3-5 years of leadership experience managing maintenance teams.
- Experience in corrugated, paper, packaging, or heavy industrial manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLCs.
- Experience with high-speed production equipment common in packaging or paper environments.
- Proficiency with CMMS platforms and maintenance planning tools.
- Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing operation.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
