EHS Director

Location: Greater Portland, OR area

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) leads environmental compliance, occupational safety, and site laboratory operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while driving a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across the site.

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (EPA, DEQ, DOT, OSHA, OHA).
• Manage environmental permits and reporting (air, water, wastewater, waste).
• Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective actions.
• Oversee environmental monitoring, sampling, data review, and reporting.
• Maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS).
  
  

• Lead site safety programs including LOTO, hazard communication, confined space, contractor safety, and emergency response.
• Oversee incident and near‑miss investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety risk assessments.
• Ensure OSHA compliance and effective safety training programs.
• Serve as primary site contact for EHS matters.
  
  

• Oversee daily laboratory operations with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Maintain SOPs, QA/QC programs, and laboratory documentation.
• Ensure equipment calibration, sample integrity, and timely data reporting.
• Support laboratory accreditation and proficiency requirements as applicable.
  
  

• Lead environmental, safety, and laboratory staff.
• Coach and develop team members; support staffing and recruitment.
• Manage EHS and laboratory budgets.
• Partner with operations, engineering, and maintenance to improve performance.
• Manage consultants, auditors, and external service providers.
  
  

Education

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Engineering (preferred), Environmental Science, Chemical or Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related field.

Experience

• 15 years of progressive EHS or environmental leadership experience.
• Strong regulatory interface experience.
• Background in industrial, manufacturing, chemical, or laboratory environments.
• Experience managing large data sets and regulatory reporting.

Preferred Certifications

• CHMM, CSP, CIH, PE, CEM, or PMP.
• Hazardous Waste, DOT Shipping, Smoke School Opacity, Small Public Water System.
• Experience with ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, or 18001 systems.
