Role Description
This is a full-time on-site position in Manitowoc, WI, for a Radio Frequency (RF) Technician. The RF Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of RF systems and equipment. Daily tasks include conducting diagnostic evaluations with test equipment, calibrating communication systems, and ensuring compliance with technical specifications. The technician will support communication infrastructure critical to public safety and business operations. Collaboration with team members and adherence to safety standards will be essential.
Essential Functions
- Installation, troubleshooting, repairs and programming of portable, mobile, and fixed land mobile radio communications systems.
- Customer communications and collaboration for effective scheduling, confirmation of fault indications, validation of fault resolution, ensure customer satisfaction.
- Documentation of time and work notes for tasks assigned in accordance with internal processes.
- Order parts and materials following internal inventory/purchasing processes.
- Consult with sales team members to assist in new deployment design, and labor estimating.
- Develop and coordinate routine preventative maintenance schedules on city/county 911 and
- Coordinate and participate in radio systems installation, testing, troubleshooting, programming and repairs.
- Communicate with customers to identify and evaluate client needs and requirements.
- Utilize test equipment including communications analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters to test customer equipment and interpret the test results.
- Apply critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative approaches to remedy systems failures.
- Establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with managers, coworkers, other governmental jurisdictions, volunteers, the media and the public.
- Effectively communicate and express ideas both orally and in writing.
- Prepare and present written correspondence, reports and materials in clear, correct and comprehensible terms from general notes and concepts.
Required Skills
- Basic electricity and electronics theory.
- Principles and techniques of land mobile radio systems technology.
- Principles and techniques of computer technology, ip and networking.
- Microsoft windows and Microsoft office suite
- National electrical code and construction codes pertaining to safe and effective equipment installations.
- Application and interpretation of DSC policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area.
Experience and Education
- At least two years’ experience with radio systems technology or a related field with emphasis on systems maintenance, troubleshooting and programming.
- Associate’s degree or military education with major course work in electronics, communications technology or a related field may substitute for the required experience.
- Mechanical aptitude demonstrated through experience with installation of equipment, routing and installing cabling, installation of connectors and various electrical fittings.
