Responsibilities
- Maintain and assist in developing reporting tools and reference libraries to enable accurate and timely reporting and ad hoc analysis.
- Assist in the month-end closing process. Review and process month-end adjusting journal entries ensuring timeliness and accuracy of financial data.
- Support the department budgeting process with a focus on improving department manager experience with data or special reporting requests, checks for accuracy in consolidation and disbursement of data and or reports.
- Generate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for executive management review.
- Create reporting to assist with the review and management of channel level reporting.
- Assist with the implementation and creation of new financial reporting systems, dashboards, reports, educating users on the new environment and analytical tools for budget management.
- Maintain all standard operating procedures concerning financial planning and reporting.
- Assist in the design and maintenance of the tax books used to complete sales, use, CAT, privilege, and other tax returns for both Avalara software returns and external sources, e.g., Sales & Use Tax System (SUTS).
- Design queries in Structured Query Language (SQL) to expedite tax and financial statement reporting as well as analysis.
- Actively identify and participate in process improvement initiatives to improve quality of data, minimize unnecessary expense, decrease risk, and improve internal controls.
- Adhere to all department and company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Maintain historical records by filing vendor documents electronically in pre-determined secure, storage location.
- Other duties as assigned within job scope.
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting, Business administration, Economics, Mathematics or Finance from an accredited college or related field.
- 2 years of related accounting and/or financial experience.
- Proficiency in general accounting principles and understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principal (GAAP).
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.)
- Detailed knowledge and experience working with ERP systems, and financial statements.
