DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs duties related to the care, custody, control, and supervision of prisoners/inmates. Receives, books, classifies, detains, incarcerates, and guards inmates to prevent disturbances, violence, and escapes. Guards, directs, and supervises inmates during work details, court appearances, transportation, and other authorized activities.
Conducts searches of inmates and living quarters to detect contraband, weapons, or prohibited items. Monitors inmate behavior during meals, programs, recreation, visitation, and other assignments. Patrols assigned areas to conduct welfare checks, enforce facility rules, prevent infractions, and monitor inmate adjustment and conduct.
Uses approved security equipment and, when necessary, employs authorized use-of-force techniques (e.g., baton, OC spray) to maintain discipline, safety, and order within the facility. Responds to emergencies and resolves immediate problems in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains accurate records, logs, reports, and documentation related to inmate activity, incidents, and daily operations. Safeguards supplies, materials, equipment, and facility security. Conducts inmate transportation, including handling personal property and belongings.
Maintains jail visitation schedules and procedures. Releases inmates as authorized. May assist with meal preparation and distribution, as well as dispensing medications under established guidelines. Attends required meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED; and One (1) year of work experience as a Corrections/Detention Officer or Security Guard.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Favorable background investigation
- No dishonorable military discharge
- Possession of a valid state driver's license
- Successful completion of drug screening, physical agility test, and physical examination
