Job Summary
Under the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director, the SELPA Program Specialist is an innovative educational leader, who demonstrates the capacity to build meaningful relationships with district level leadership, site administrators, certificated and classified staff members, and parents and families on behalf of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP). The SELPA Program Specialist exhibits technical expertise in special education compliance, program monitoring and programming within the public education setting and possesses a developed understanding of landmark and current special education legislation. The SELPA Program Specialist supports and consults with administrators and other staff members in the development and implementation of compliant programming for students receiving special education services; participates and facilitates meetings and trainings for staff members and various collaborators; and builds the capacity of certificated and classified staff members; serves as a liaison between the member Districts and various outside agencies, prepares and oversees contracts, inter-agency agreements, and other entities; attends and facilitates parent meetings and meetings with families utilizing a collaborative lens, conducts data quality review, supports the Extended School Year program, creates and maintains appropriate documentation, records, and reports; and adheres to legally compliant timelines throughout the scope of practice.
Requirements / Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Education or a closely related field • Valid California Administrative Credential required • Valid California Teaching Credential - Special Education, Pupil Personnel Services, or Single or Multiple Subject Credential • A minimum of five years of experience in the field of special education required • Administrative experience desired and preferred.
