JOB SUMMARYThe Behavior Specialist will provide direct service and assist program staff in responding effectively and appropriately to the behavior-emotion, social skills development and academic support needs of students experiencing emotional and behavioral challenges in the school environment.

DUTIES This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Conduct observations as needed to assist with the evaluation of the students behavior and social skill level.
Complete or assist in the preparation of records, reports, recommendations, and correspondence as necessary.
Consult with administration in the development and implementation of crisis intervention and intervention plans, which may include behavioral programs, teacher strategies, home intervention plans, and mobilization of community resources for direct services.
Participate in the interdisciplinary staff meetings and conferences as requested, to support the process of identification, planning and implementation of educational services including development of behavior plans to improve student academic functioning and social adjustment to school.
Participate in IEP meetings to determine appropriate Individual Education Programs and placement for eligible students.Collaborate with school staff and families to develop behavioral safety, supportive or behavior intervention plans aimed at addressing crisis-related behaviors and promoting positive outcomes.
Provide guidance and coaching to teachers on implementing conflict resolution skills within the classroom environment.Provide guidance on how to modify curriculum materials to suit the developmental needs and cultural background of students.
Facilitate skill building groups and one-on-one sessions with students to develop mental health coping skills.
Provide families and caregivers with tools and resources for supporting students' mental health needs outside of school hours.
Assist in establishing connections between schools/programs and community resources, including mental health services and other support programs.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, assessments, interventions, and referrals in compliance with professional and legal standards.
Prepare progress reports and documentation for use in meetings with school staff, families, ESD, and external stakeholders.
Engage in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and stay informed about best practices.
Contribute to safety committee and crisis team meetings and trainings to enhance school-wide response strategies and promote student safety and well-being.
Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSMasters degree in psychology, counseling, social work, special education, or equivalent experience.Successful experience with the practices and application of behavior intervention techniques, social skills development, effective communication with students, and consultation strategies with staff.
