Construction Laborer Job Description
1. Purpose
This policy defines the responsibilities, expectations, and performance standards for Construction
Laborers. The goal is to ensure safe, productive, and high-quality support for all field operations
across company projects.

2. Role Overview
Construction Laborers are responsible for supporting field crews with general labor, site
preparation, material handling, and task-specific duties as directed by the Foreman and
Superintendent.

Laborers play a critical role in safety, production, and jobsite cleanliness. They report directly
to the
Foreman, with oversight from the Superintendent.

3. Core Responsibilities & Performance Standards
A. General Labor & Task Execution
Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned tasks such as shoveling, raking, grading by hand, pipe laying assistance,
concrete work, and general site labor.
  • Support equipment operators, truck drivers, and skilled trades as needed.
  • Follow instructions from Foremen and Superintendents accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain productivity throughout the workday.
Performance Standards
  • Tasks completed safely and efficiently.
  • Minimal rework due to laborer error.
  • Demonstrated reliability and strong work ethic.
B. Safety Compliance
Responsibilities
  • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and site-specific rules.
  • Participate in daily safety huddles and hazard reviews.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and report them immediately.
  • Maintain awareness around equipment, trucks, and active work zones.
Performance Standards

  • Zero preventable safety violations.
  • Consistent use of PPE and safe work practices.
  • Positive safety behavior observed by leadership.
C. Site Cleanliness & Organization
Responsibilities

  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Remove debris, maintain haul roads, and support erosion control efforts.
  • Assist with setup and teardown of work zones, barricades, and signage.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean, working condition.
Performance Standards

  • Jobsite remains clean and orderly.
  • Tools and materials stored properly.
  • No delays caused by poor housekeeping.
D. Material Handling & Support
Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, and move materials safely.
  • Assist with pipe, structures, rebar, forms, and other construction materials.
  • Support operators with spotting, signaling, and grade checking.
  • Ensure materials are staged correctly for upcoming work.
Performance Standards

  • Materials handled safely with no damage.
  • Efficient staging that supports production.
  • Clear communication with operators and crew members.
E. Communication & Teamwork
Responsibilities

  • Maintain clear communication with Foremen, Operators, and fellow laborers.
  • Ask questions when instructions are unclear.
  • Work cooperatively with all crew members.
  • Represent the company professionally at all times.
Performance Standards

  • Smooth coordination with field teams.
  • No miscommunication-related delays.
  • Positive attitude and teamwork consistently demonstrated.
F. Skill Development
Responsibilities
  • Learn new tasks, tools, and techniques to increase capability.
  • Participate in training sessions and safety meetings.
  • Seek opportunities to grow into higher-skilled roles (e.g., pipe layer, operator,
carpenter).

  • Demonstrated improvement in skills over time.
  • Willingness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Positive feedback from leadership.

Required Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
Ability to perform general construction labor activities including shoveling, raking, hand grading, material handling, concrete work, and assisting with pipe installation.
Ability to follow directions from Foremen, Superintendents, and other crew leaders.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies, PPE requirements, and site-specific safety procedures.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced construction environment.
Dependable attendance and willingness to maintain productivity throughout the workday.
Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, equipment operators, and fellow crew members.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, kneel, climb, and perform other physically demanding construction activities safely.
Ability to identify and report unsafe conditions or workplace hazards.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in construction, excavation, utility, pipeline, road, site development, or heavy civil construction.
Knowledge of basic construction tools, materials, and equipment.
Experience spotting equipment, signaling operators, or checking grades.
OSHA 10 certification or other construction safety training.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Desire to develop skills and advance into positions such as Pipe Layer, Equipment Operator, Carpenter, or other skilled trades.
