Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support our project management team on a variety of marine construction projects, including seawalls, bulkheads, docks, piers, steel sheet piling, cofferdams, and shoreline stabilization. The APM will assist in coordinating daily operations, managing project documentation, communicating with field crews and subcontractors, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
This position is ideal for someone with solid construction knowledge—preferably marine or civil—who is looking to grow into a full Project Manager role.
Duties
Project Coordination & Support
- Assist the Project Manager in planning, scheduling, and executing marine construction projects.
Documentation & Controls
- Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, permits, and change orders.
- Maintain accurate project files, logs, and documentation using project management software (Buildertrend, Procore, Excel, etc.).
- Track material deliveries, equipment allocation, and inventory.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to contract specifications and regulatory requirements.
Scheduling & Cost Tracking
- Assist with the development and maintenance of project schedules.
- Track labor hours, equipment usage, and production quantities.
- Update cost projections and assist with forecasting project budgets.
- Support preparation of pay applications and billing support documents.
Field & Safety Support
- Conduct site walks with the Project Manager to monitor progress and identify potential issues.
- Ensure safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality standards are being followed.
- Assist in coordinating marine operations such as crane picks, pile driving logistics, barge movements, turbidity control, and waterway access management.
Communication & Client Interaction
- Serve as a point of contact between office, field, and client representatives.
- Communicate progress updates, required actions, and schedule impacts.
- Support the PM in maintaining strong relationships with clients, engineers, and regulatory agencies (DEP, USACE, local municipalities, etc.).
- Coordinate daily activities with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors.
- Prepare, track, and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly project reports.
- Attend project meetings and record meeting minutes, action items, and follow-ups.
Qualifications
Required
- 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil or marine construction (or relevant internship experience).
- Strong understanding of construction terminology, workflows, and methods.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to visit job sites as needed.
Preferred
- Experience in marine construction: steel sheet piling, cofferdams, dredging, seawalls, pile driving, or waterfront work.
- Familiarity with Buildertrend, Procore, scheduling software (MS Project or P6), and estimating tools.
- Experience with submittals, RFIs, and change order documentation.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree.
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
