What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overhead Door & Dock Equipment - installer/service technician position at Dock & Door Systems?
Commercial Overhead Door & Dock Equipment Service Technician / InstallerMobile, Alabama | Experienced Technicians Only
We are a family-owned commercial door and dock company based in Mobile, Alabama, providing installation, service, and repair of commercial overhead doors, loading dock equipment, and related industrial equipment throughout the Gulf Coast.
We are looking for an experienced technician who already knows this trade.
This is not an entry-level or learn-on-the-job position. You must have real field experience with both installation and service/repair, including diagnosing and troubleshooting commercial overhead doors and loading dock equipment.
If you're the "Go To", that's the level of experience we're looking for.
What It's Like Working Here
We're not a huge corporate company, we are tight-knit and driven! You won't be one of 50 technicians competing against each other for hours, recognition, or the better jobs.
Our technicians work together. When you need a second opinion, another set of eyes, or some backup in the field, you have experienced technicians and management you can call on. We expect you to provide that same support to the next guy.
We don't believe good technicians need someone looking over their shoulder all day. If you know what you're doing, you'll be trusted to diagnose problems, communicate with the customer, make good decisions in the field, and get the job done.
There is no advantage here to making the technician beside you look bad. We want experienced people who share knowledge, back each other up, and take pride in what the entire team accomplishes.
What You Need to Already Know
You must have a minimum of 5 years of commercial overhead door and/or loading dock equipment experience and previous employment with a company performing this type of work.
You need hands-on experience with installation, service, repair, and troubleshooting, including:
- Sectional overhead doors
- Rolling steel doors
- Commercial operators and controls
- Dock levelers and vehicle restraints
- Dock seals, shelters, bumpers, and related equipment
- Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting
- Field welding and fabrication
You should be capable of receiving a service call, arriving on site, figuring out what is actually wrong, and determining what it takes to fix it.
Manufacturer technical support is there when needed, but you must already understand the equipment and the trade well enough to troubleshoot it.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer top pay in the industry for top-level technicians. We aren't going to put an arbitrary number on what your experience is worth before we've met you and understand what you can do.
If you've been in this trade long enough, you know what your experience and ability are truly worth. So do we.
Your compensation package will be determined based on your experience, technical ability, certifications, and demonstrated skill level.
We provide:
- Company service truck and fuel
- Company tools and equipment
- Company uniforms
- Health and prescription insurance
- Dental and vision insurance
- Life insurance
- 401(k) with company matching
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Manufacturer and advanced technical training
- Opportunities to advance into Lead Technician, Field Supervisor, and other leadership positions
- Consistent, year-round work
We have a rotating after-hours emergency service schedule. Overtime, weekend, and after-hours work will occasionally be required based on customer and emergency service needs.
Screening, Interview & Skill Evaluation
Before an in-person interview is scheduled, applicants being considered must successfully complete:
- Pre-employment drug screening
- Criminal background check
- Driving record review
- Previous employment and reference verification
Candidates who successfully complete the screening process will be invited to an in-person interview in Mobile, Alabama.
A résumé tells us where you've worked. We want to know what you can actually do. The interview will focus on your real-world experience, the equipment you've worked on, installations you've performed, problems you've diagnosed, and your technical abilities.
Any technician hired will also go through an initial trial/evaluation period to demonstrate those skills in actual field conditions.
We're not expecting anyone to know every manufacturer or have seen every possible problem. We are expecting you to already know the trade, work independently, help the people around you, take care of your truck and tools, treat customers professionally, and take pride in doing the job correctly.
If you're an experienced commercial overhead door and dock technician looking for a smaller, tight-knit company where your experience actually matters, we'd like to hear from you.
