Overview
Our client, a single professional based in the Marina District of San Francisco, is seeking a talented and personable Personal Chef to prepare high-quality meals in her private residence. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, warmth, and professionalism to the kitchen while maintaining discretion and adaptability in a home where hospitality and quality are highly valued.
This is a perfect role for a chef who enjoys cooking refined but approachable meals, takes pride in presentation, and appreciates a calm, structured work environment. The client enjoys entertaining guests regularly and values a chef who is both confident and easygoing—a joy to be around, with a good sense of humor and an openness to feedback.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a simple lunch daily for the principal
- Cook dinner and meals for the following days (no dinner service required)
- Plan and execute occasional plated, multi-course dinner parties for small groups(4-16)
- Stock and maintain pantry and refrigerator, ensuring freshness and quality of ingredients
- Manage food sourcing and grocery shopping (purchase top-quality ingredients only)
- Create weekly menus aligned with the client’s tastes and dietary preferences
- Prepare baked goods (cookies, brownies, and other simple desserts)
- Maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment and adhere to food safety standards
Client Food Preferences & Cooking Style
The client enjoys comforting, flavorful dishes—risottos, Asian-inspired bowls, fresh (not homemade) pasta, peanut-based sauces, Parmesan-forward dishes, sourdough, flatbreads, and foods that can be eaten casually by hand. They avoid seafood, spicy ingredients, cilantro, mint, and overly salty food. Many meals come from a long-standing family cookbook, and the chef should be comfortable preparing those recipes with consistency.
Meals should be ready by mid-afternoon (around 3 pm), with time afterward to shop or prep for the following day. The client tends to eat later, so having food ready in advance works well.
Kitchen Management & Shopping
The chef should create ongoing, well-organized grocery lists—and keep them updated as dishes are planned together. Resourcefulness with spending is important: knowing when quality matters and when it’s better to save.
