POSITION OVERVIEW:
TITLE: Coordinator of Nursing Services
STATUS/FLSA: Full-time / Exempt
SCHEDULE/GROUP: District Level Admin - Group 6, but adjusted rate for 201 days
SUPERVISOR: Assistant Superintendent for Student Services & Director of Nursing Services
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 201 Days (if employed for full contract calendar). Salary determined by schedule set by the Board and adjusted for shorter contract days (those less than 240).
EVALUATION: Performance evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board policy.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this classification is to provide support assistance to the Director of Nursing Services with health service delivery throughout the school district. The Coordinator of Nursing Services will be responsible for coordinating:
- Nursing emergency preparedness training
- Immunization compliance
- Nurse orientation training
- Health room assistance and assisting with the supervision of nurses
- Additionally, uphold professional standards, adhere to the State Nurse Practice Act and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing, promote health and wellness in students, and work collaboratively with medical personnel, family, and staff to restore health.
EDUCATION:
Completion of Associate’s Degree from an accredited School or College of Nursing. Education can be substituted for experience.
EXPERIENCE:
5 years school nurse experience (Nurse Manager experience may be considered).
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS
- REQUIRED: SC Registered Nurse License, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
- PREFERRED: None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential job duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties assigned.
- Coordinate CPR/AED training for each school/site; Epipen Training, Emergency Tourniquet Training;
- Monitoring and training of immunization compliance;
- Coordinate training and assist with developing Individualized Health Care Plans(IHPs); Assist with district-wide vision screening;
- Utilize the nursing module to maintain detailed, health-specific documentation for each student encounter including: nurse assessment notes, medication administration, Medicaid coding and documentation and other encounters.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Assist in identifying suspected child abuse and neglect and report suspected cases as mandated by state law.
- Promote and assist in the control of infectious diseases through prevention, testing screening, early intervention, and reporting as indicated.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to maintain a SC nurses' license;
- Knowledge of the State Nurse Practice Act;
- Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);
- Knowledge of pharmacology, including the classification, indications and dosages, adverse reactions, and contraindications of medications administered;
- Knowledge of disease transmission including blood borne pathogens;
- Knowledge of infection control practices;
- Knowledge and certification in CPR and AED;
- Ability to perform vision screenings;
- Knowledge of medical terminology;
- Knowledge of Medicaid policy, coding, and documentation;
- Knowledge of medical equipment usage and maintenance;
- Knowledge of DPH policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of District exclusion and readmission policies for contagious and infectious diseases;
- Knowledge of the signs, symptoms, and prevention of infection;
- Ability to complete an individualized healthcare plan using the nursing process
- Assessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Goals, Interventions, and Evaluation/Outcomes);
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; strong computer, digital, and information literacy skills.
