Job Title: Director of Finance
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Training or education in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred;
- Certificate, license, or other legal credentials required: New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Level 2 Professional School Business Official License; and
- Minimum of five years’ successful experience in business accounting and/or school finance, with preference given for experience in school district finance/accounting; including at least three years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of applicable computer systems, including word processing, database and spreadsheet software;
- Strong skills working both alone and in teams, providing financial leadership and support to both team members and other personnel alike;
- Extensive interpersonal skills with diverse populations;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and critical thinking skills;
- Demonstrated deep understanding of financial systems and accounting methodologies;
- Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and direct the work of others;
- Organized work habits and project management skills; and
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Executive Director of Finance may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of the District’s financial operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, cash management, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets and other finance functions as assigned;
- Supervise, evaluate, and support Finance Department staff;
- Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement;
- Ensure fiscal integrity and compliance with all applicable laws and regulation;
- Develop and implement District finance procedures and processes to promote operational efficiency, ensure compliance, and maintain an ongoing awareness of how the department’s work supports District goals and contributes to positive student achievement;
- Establish and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard District assets;
- Coordinate and manage the external financial audit; respond to audit findings and implement corrective action plans;
- Support data-driven decision-making through financial analysis and reporting;
- Attend all Finance and Audit Committee meetings; attend Board meetings as requested;
- Promote customer service philosophies; oversee training of district and school staff in areas of responsibility;
- Keep informed of all laws, regulations, statutes, rules, and policies, and procedures affecting the department;
- Safeguard confidentiality of privileged information;
- Comply with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state, and federal regulations;
- Maintain professional relationships and collaborate cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals; and
- May be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.
Terms of Employment: 240-day employee. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
